American YouTuber MrBeast joined the cast and crew of Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana at a promotional event in Mumbai on Saturday, where he chanted Jai Shri Ram after being prompted by actor Ranbir Kapoor.
The event was held at the DNEG and Prime Focus office in Mumbai. It was attended by Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, Ravie Dubey, director Nitesh Tiwari, and producer Namit Malhotra .
MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, is currently in India with his wife Thea Booysen. The couple visited the Taj Mahal in Agra a day before the Mumbai event .
The YouTube star received a traditional Indian welcome at the venue before interacting with the audience .
The Jai Shri Ram Moment
During the event, MrBeast asked the crowd, ‘Are you guys having a good time?’ When the response was not as loud as expected, Ranbir Kapoor appeared to prompt him to lead a chant .
According to Bollywood Hungama, members of the media began chanting, ‘Jai Shri Ram, MrBeast.’ Unsure of how to respond, MrBeast turned to Ranbir Kapoor for help. Ranbir guided him, and MrBeast then said, ‘Jai Shri Ram.’ The response was met with loud cheers, claps and hoots from those present .
Ranbir Kapoor then explained the significance of Lord Ram to MrBeast. He said, ‘Ramayana and Shri Ram are very deeply etched in our subconscious since the day we were born. Lord Rama is someone who never tried to be a hero. He’s known as Maryada Purushottam, which symbolizes a righteous man. He was born as a prince, and he could have had everything he wanted. But he sacrificed it all to fulfil his father’s promise. We use a word in our culture which means Dharma. It means duty. I don’t know if there’s a direct meaning to that. He sacrificed it all as a commitment to his duty’ .
Ranbir added, ‘Lord Rama is the perfect man, and through this film, you can have a brief introduction to our culture, history and where it all began’ .
MrBeast also spoke about his experience at the event. He said, ‘It’s a lot of fun to be here. Thanks for having me. Are you guys having a good time? I feel very, very grateful and it was amazing to see some parts of the movie’ .
Ranbir Lifts the Bow
The event also featured a moment where Ranbir Kapoor lifted a replica of the Shiv Dhanush. A video from the event shows Ranbir picking up the bow as the crowd cheered .
According to Times Now, Ranbir lifted the Shiv Dhanush and offered prayers before putting it back .
Sai Pallavi, who plays Sita in the film, lit lamps at the event while the sound of a traditional conch shell filled the air .
MrBeast Learns of Angry Birds Collaboration
Producer Namit Malhotra revealed at the event that he and MrBeast are collaborating on another project. Malhotra said, ‘And for those of you who may not know, I just spoke with MrBeast. We’re also collaborating on another film called Angry Birds 3, which we are producing’ .
MrBeast replied, ‘I learned today that we are actually working together!’ .
Malhotra also explained the concept of Sita’s swayamvar to MrBeast. He described how Lord Rama emerged victorious by completing the bow challenge. He drew a parallel with The Odyssey, which features a similar bow-and-arrow sequence .
Event Delayed by Over Three Hours
The event, scheduled to begin at 1:30 pm, eventually commenced at around 5 pm. The delay angered members of the media who had gathered at the venue .
Ravie Dubey apologized for the delay. Producer Namit Malhotra also apologized, saying there were ‘logistics beyond our control’ .
Reports indicated that MrBeast’s late arrival caused the delay. He had missed two flights before reaching the event .
