For years, people have believed that the bodyguards of Bollywood’s biggest stars live a lavish life. Many assumed they earn crores of rupees every year. But now, a man who actually lived that life has come forward to tell the truth. His name is Yaseen Khan. He was the personal bodyguard of Shah Rukh Khan for over a decade. And according to him, the numbers floating on the internet are simply not true.
The Man Behind the Story
Yaseen Khan is not a new face in the entertainment world. He is a tall, well-built man standing at 6 feet 3 inches. He is originally from a small town in Karnataka. For more than ten years, he was the closest person to one of India’s biggest superstars. He lived inside the Mannat premises — SRK’s iconic bungalow in Mumbai. He travelled the world with Shah Rukh Khan on shoots and concert tours.
His story of getting the job is also quite interesting. As a young man in his 20s, Yaseen used to wait outside Mannat for weeks. He tried to get SRK’s attention at Filmistan Studio. He visited SRK’s office many times but was turned away. Then one day, by pure luck, he helped a doctor park his car. That doctor happened to be treating Shah Rukh Khan. The doctor then connected Yaseen to SRK. And just like that, his dream came true.
He served as SRK’s bodyguard loyally for years. In 2015, he eventually moved on to start his own security firm called YK PROSEC, based in Mumbai.
“This Is Not How It Works”
Yaseen recently gave an interview to Hindi Rush. In it, he dismissed the widely circulated claim that top Bollywood bodyguards earn around Rs. 2 to 2.5 crore per year. He flatly said, “Aisa nahi hota” — meaning “this is not how it works.”
He was very direct. He questioned the viral claims by asking, “Kon deta hai Rs. 10 lakh per month?” — meaning “who is paying Rs. 10 lakh per month?” His point was clear. Nobody is paying that kind of money to a bodyguard every single month.
According to Yaseen, bodyguards working with major Bollywood stars are usually given a fixed monthly salary. They may also get some extra perks depending on the project. There may be additional payments linked to film shoots. But he said this is not a widespread or standard practice in the industry.
He also stated that even top-tier Bollywood security personnel typically do not earn more than around Rs. 1 lakh per month. That is a huge difference from the Rs. 2 crore annual figure that many reports have claimed.
What About Shera and Ravi Singh?
Yaseen also spoke about two of the most famous bodyguards in Bollywood. One is Shera, who has been with Salman Khan for over 25 years. The other is Ravi Singh, who currently protects Shah Rukh Khan.
Yaseen said he does not believe that either Shera or Ravi Singh earns Rs. 2 to 2.5 crore per year. He questioned the viral claims that have been circulating about them. FVarious media reports and websites have claimed figures like Rs. 2 crore for Shera and Rs. 2.5 crore or more for Ravi Singh. Yaseen’s words suggest these numbers are greatly exaggerated.
This is a significant statement. Yaseen himself was in that world for a long time. He knows how it works from the inside. His opinion carries weight.
Cricketers vs. Bollywood Stars
One of the most interesting parts of Yaseen’s interview was his comparison between cricketers and Bollywood stars when it comes to paying for security. While he did not give exact figures, his comments made it clear that cricketers treat their bodyguards differently from Bollywood actors.
The broader point he made is simple. In the world of cricket, especially with the rise of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and international cricket, the money flowing around is enormous. Top Indian cricketers today earn massive sums through BCCI contracts, match fees, and IPL salaries. It is natural that their security arrangements reflect that wealth. Bollywood, on the other hand, has a more informal and less structured way of handling bodyguard payments.
Yaseen also pointed out that despite their crucial role in keeping celebrities safe, bodyguards are often undervalued. They are only truly recognized when a security problem arises. This is a sad reality for many people working in this profession.
A Career Built on Loyalty
Yaseen’s own story is a good example of what the life of a celebrity bodyguard really looks like. He gave up a huge part of his personal life to serve his boss. He was always on call. He had to be present at every public event, every film shoot, every overseas trip.
When he eventually decided to leave SRK’s employment, it was not easy. He said that Shah Rukh Khan was an exemplary boss. It was a tough call for Yaseen to quit, but he left because he needed to spend time with his family. Both his parents suffered from diabetes, and he had a wife and two little daughters at home.
SRK was not happy when Yaseen quit, but he understood the situation. The two have maintained a warm relationship. They were even spotted hugging each other at a celebrity wedding event in later years.
His Own Security Empire
After leaving SRK’s service, Yaseen did not sit idle. In 2015, he launched YK PROSEC — a Mumbai-based private security firm that specialises in VIP protection and event security management.
The firm has grown significantly and has catered to a galaxy of top Bollywood celebrities and high-profile newsmakers. Yaseen used his years of experience protecting India’s biggest superstar to build something of his own.
He also revealed that he personally pushed for structured contracts during film assignments for bodyguards. This eventually led to similar discussions among other security professionals and producers. So in many ways, Yaseen has helped improve the working conditions of those in his profession.
The Bigger Picture
What Yaseen Khan has revealed is important. It pulls back the curtain on an industry that is usually hidden from public view. Bollywood loves glamour. Everything looks shiny from the outside. But the people who make that glamour possible — the bodyguards who stand in the heat, the crowd, and the chaos — are not always rewarded fairly.
His message is simple. Do not believe everything you read on the internet. The real numbers are much more modest. And the people doing this difficult job deserve far more recognition than they currently get.
